The show immediately won the love of fans, but with each season, the quality and level of writing declined.

Viewers hoped that the series would stop being an anthology and bring back beloved characters to continue their stories. And recently, Reddit once again provided some sort of "unique" insight.

User benaffleckkanye notes that after revisiting the series for the fourth time, the fan remembered that Nick Pizzolatto, the creator of True Detective, wrote to them on Instagram two years ago.

The showrunner was allegedly responding to a request to continue the arc of Rust and Marty, the two cops from season 1 who investigated the Yellow King case.

It was the first installment of the series that managed to win the love of fans. Viewers were attracted not only by the mysteries bordering on mysticism and religion, but also by the carefully crafted image of the Central States of America, dominated by corruption, lawlessness and poverty.

The success of the first season was also fueled by the incredibly well-developed characters portrayed on screen by Matthew McConaughey (Rust) and Woody Harrelson (Marty).

These two opposites drove the plot forward, immersing the audience deeper into a desperate world exploring the nature of evil.

Redditor claims that Nick stated that the plan was to continue the storyline with a pair of detectives, Rust Cohle and not Marty, but Henry Hays (son of Season 3's Wayne Hays), investigating the Yellow King again. The plan was scrapped, though.

The development of a pair of detectives, pitting former nihilist Cohle against rookie cop Hayes, would have given the story some momentum.

Unfortunately, the Redditor could not confirm these words because they did not have a screenshot of Pizzolatto's response. Because of that, many fans simply don't believe the user, claiming it was just a dream.

Others still hope it was true because they fantasize about seeing Matthew McConaughey's incredible performance again.

Some say they understand the audience's desire for the return of the beloved character, but the fact is, True Detective is an anthology series, so let it stay that way.

A new chapter of True Detective will be released later this year. The story follows two cops investigating the disappearance of six men from a research station in Alaska.

We can only hope that the series will once again be able to create a unique storyline that not only has an interesting case to solve, but also a philosophical thought behind it.
