Is the resemblance really that important?

Summary:

  • General Hospital is one of the longest running shows on television.
  • Over the years, many characters have come and gone from the show, and now the long lost character Jagger Cates is set to return to the show.
  • However, fans are not sure about the casting decision.

General Hospital has been on the air for more than 60 years now, but it seems that the fans still can't get enough of it, and by fans we mean those who are already in their 70s and the schoolgirls who have just joined the show. The soap opera is truly a cultural phenomenon because it unites so many generations.

As the soap opera genre suggests, there are many controversial and even almost unbelievable storylines, but that never bothers the fans. However, the one thing that always sets the fandom on fire is the casting decisions.

Casting changes are not a new thing for the genre, there are many times in the history of General Hospital when a character was introduced by one actor and then taken over by another. But it still feels like every time this happens, the fans just react like it’s the first time.

For example, recently it has been revealed that one of the former beloved characters, Jagger Cates, is coming back to the show. He first appeared on the screen in 1992 and was then played by Antonio Sabato, Jr – a handsome young man with dark hair.

He played the part until 1995, and then appeared in the show’s universe again in 2008 in the spinoff General Hospital: Night Shift. So now that the they decided to bring the character back, the producers went with Adam Harrington.

On February 2, he appeared on the screen as Jagger. And this caused controversy in the fandom. Many fans were disappointed to see a new face representing a beloved Italian character.

But there were lots of those who just assumed that it was okay to bring in a new actor for the role that was on screen thirty years ago. As long as he portrays the long lost character well.

“All I can think is that he really had a great audition. He's a good actor, so I'm willing to see what this brings to the show. To me it's more out of left field that they brought Jagger back after almost 30 years,” Redditor junknowho said.

Well, if you feel like making your own judgment for the matter, General Hospital's latest episodes are available to stream on Hulu.
