Unexpected problems have further delayed production, which was scheduled to resume this month.

Summary:

  • Foundation TV series is one of the best sci-fi TV shows in recent years that has only gotten better with time
  • Production on the highly anticipated third season was put on hold in May 2023, but is expected to resume this month
  • Unfortunately, a new update reveals that it has been further delayed due to budget and physical production issues

Foundation TV series, based on the book series of the same name by Isaac Asimov, one of the most legendary sci-fi authors of all time, proved to be one of the best TV installments in the genre in recent years.

The show got off to a bit of a rocky start, as its debut season, which premiered in 2021, was praised for great acting and impressive visuals, but criticized for its story and pacing, though it was considered good overall.

The second season, however, improved the show in almost every way, correcting many of its predecessor's mistakes and making Foundation a truly great sci-fi TV series that leaves many other projects in the dust.

With all this in mind, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the story, which started production in May 2023, but was put on hold in July due to the Hollywood strikes.

Season 3 Production Has Been Further Delayed

Unfortunately, a new update from Deadline brings sad news to fans of the series, as it is reported that the filming of season 3, which was expected to resume this month, has been delayed once again due to problems with budgeting and physical production.

Only about a third of the season has been filmed so far, and it is currently unknown when the issues will be resolved, as the cast and crew have reportedly been told to return home.

Can It Be About the Budget?

Until now, budget has never seemed to be a problem for the show, as it has been relatively inexpensive, despite its outstanding visuals, which perfectly convey the epic story that spans hundreds of years.

The first season reportedly cost $45 million to make, but no information has been revealed about the second season's budget, although it is reasonable to assume that it was only slightly larger.

For comparison, this is less than some other TV shows have spent on a single episode, such as The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power ($58 million per episode) and Citadel ($50 million per episode).

Hopefully, the current problems won't affect the quality of season 3 and fans will finally get to see the next chapter of the epic sci-fi story relatively soon.
