Newest Arcane S2 Teaser Is a Tragic Confirmation of a Viral Vander Fan Theory
At least that's what fans think now.
Summary:
- Arcane is a sensational animated show released in 2021, and after years of waiting, fans are getting first sneak peaks at season 2
- Several days earlier, Netflix released a "first look" at the upcoming second season, and it already reveals a lot
- Fans believe the clip teases the appearance of Warwick — a character from League of Legends who might as well be a reincarnation of the show's character, Vander, who died in season 1 (or did he?)
Apparently, 2024 will be a good year for Arcane fans — at least the very first days of the year proved to be full of joy for the fandom, with people still raving about the fresh first look teaser of the upcoming season 2.
The early promotional materials for the second chapter of Arcane have not been a lot in terms of running time; all "first look" video clips are less than a minute so far, but it seems that they are more than enough in terms of quality and big hints.
The newest teaser, for example, appears to tease several new characters, albeit not directly. League of Legends fans, however, immediately spotted the hints at Orianna, the mechanical clockwork girl who was once of flesh and blood; Signed, the mad Zaunite alchemist with no limits; and Warwick, a mysterious monster haunting the alleys of Zaun with his body twisted by cruel experiments.
Well, even though the figures of Signed and Orianna are full of mysteries and possible twists, it's the Warwick hints that are the most interesting to us this time. The teaser trailer actually serves as a yet another confirmation to one of the most tragic fan theories in the Arcane fandom.
Is Vander Still Alive — And Is He, In Fact, Warwick?
A little flashbacks for those who may have forgotten: in the first season, Vander, Vi and Powder's father figure, tragically died trying to protect his loved ones. We last saw his body, injected with Shimmer, left at Silco's place. Many fans believed long before the season 2 first look that Vander will be turned into Warwick, and now the teaser has provided them with a visual confirmation.
Now, people are taking it to the metaphoric level.
"Vander died for the sins of the Brother. Warwick was born through them. Its gonna be sick," Redditor Ryaltovski noted.
It only helps that League of Legends provided little backstory for Warwick — the werewolf-esque champion is known to players as a predator and a dangerous enemy, but we don't really know much about him and his past human life (except he is a former gangster who decided to live a better life, duh). Given that his body is infused with mechanisms and alchemy, it's only fair to assume that another character seen in the teaser sitting below the gigantic wolf-like figure is Signed, and he is the one responsible for turning Vander into Warwick.
Now, this only proves that Vander's survival is not exactly good news — clearly, if the fan theory is actually confirmed in the show, Warwick's allegiance is unclear. If Vander was a protector of his family and a "good guy," Warwick could be anyone — a dangerous blood-thirsty monster driven by rage and controlled by Signed, or a Hulk-like character who will need to master his rage and try to live decently in his new body.
Arcane season 2 will release some time in 2024, with the exact premiere date still to be scheduled.
