New Star Wars Update Is Sad News For Andor Fans
The lineup of Disney projects set for release in 2024 doesn't include the show's second season, despite the previously established release date.
Summary:
- The Andor TV series provided a fresh new take on Star Wars that many fans have been asking for for years
- In light of the 2023 Hollywood strikes, there were concerns about how they might have affected the production of season 2
- New update suggests that unfortunately it will most likely be delayed until 2025, with the strikes not being the only reason
After an exceptionally strong start with the first season of The Mandalorian TV series, which many fans hailed as the savior of Star Wars after the controversial sequel trilogy, the live-action TV branch of the franchise unfortunately proved to be a bit of a hit and miss.
While some shows turned out to be great additions to Star Wars, others ended up being much more disappointing, and sadly, even The Mandalorian, the show that started it all, took a turn for the worse, with fan reaction to its third season being quite mixed.
Andor TV Series Delivered What Many Star Wars Fans Craved
However, one project definitely stands out from the rest, as despite being practically experimental and drastically different from almost every other movie and show set in the Star Wars universe, it has been one of the most intriguing additions to the franchise in decades since its inception back in 1977.
Created by Tony Gilroy, the Andor TV series debuted in 2022 and served as a prequel to 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, revolving around one of the film's main characters, Cassian Andor.
With its unusually grounded approach to the Star Wars universe, along with an intense plot and well-acted characters, many fans felt it was a breath of fresh air in a sea of countless other projects that more or less felt the same.
Many of them had been clamoring for a dark and gritty take on their favorite franchise for years, and when their wish was finally granted, audiences couldn't get enough of Andor and were hoping for more.
Unfortunately for them, it was announced that despite the very positive reviews, the second season would be the show's last, directly linking to the beginning of Rogue One.
Now, a new update on the status of Andor season 2 suggests that fans of the series are in for even more sad news.
Andor Season 2 Premiere Has Most Likely Been Postponed
Since the first season ended more than a year ago, they have been eagerly waiting to see the rest of the story, which was originally scheduled to be released in August 2024.
But with the Hollywood strikes of 2023, which paralyzed the production of many projects, some fans wondered if they had affected Andor as well.
With Disney revealing the lineup of projects that will hit the screens in 2024, it seems that their fears have unfortunately come true, as there is no sight of the show's second season among them.
According to Gizmodo, it will most likely be postponed to 2025 due to the aforementioned strikes and to make room for two other Star Wars shows, Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte, which will be released in 2024.
Although fans are disappointed by this turn of events, as many of them would have preferred Andor to the other two shows that may end up being of questionable quality, they seem to understand that this is probably for the best.
It's better to wait a year longer for Andor season 2 to come out in the state it was meant to be, rather than a rushed, half-baked version that wouldn't live up to the high standard set by its predecessor.
No official statements have been made yet, but if the show is indeed postponed, fans will learn about its new release date sooner or later.
