Fans always seem to remember more than writers do.

The New Girl series debuted in 2011 and ran for 7 seasons, ending in 2018.

With more than 140 episodes, audiences really fell in love with the characters, understood their motivations, and followed the story closely.

Of course, most of the attention was always focused on the main characters: Jess, Nick, Schmidt, and Winston, but many other characters have also made their mark on the hearts of fans.

You don't have to have a crazy backstory or be part of an amazing plot to be remembered by the audience.

Bertie, Winston's ex-girlfriend played by Jessica Chaffin, proved this with her own example. Quiet and sweet, she only appeared in 4 episodes of the show and never returned.

With no farewell scene and no mention of the reason, fans were left confused by this directorial decision.

"She basically just disappeared. It's a shame they couldn't even do throwaway lines to explain when characters don't come back because it feels like this show is guilty of just dropping storylines more than others," Redditor AdministrativeLaugh2 said, calling out the show for storyline inconsistencies.

Unfortunately, the judgment is fair, as New Girl has often been criticized by both fans and critics for this very reason.

There is a certain amount of illogical decisions and plot holes that could be ignored or written off to the extreme amount of editing that had to be done to fit into a 30-minute episode.

However, dropping off the character with no further explanation and bringing in another love interest just half a season later crosses the line.

If you're feeling nostalgic or want to rewatch New Girl for yourself in hopes of finding some answers, you can do so by streaming the show on Netflix, Hulu, and Peacock.

However, with the recent announcement, if you want to stream it on Netflix, you'll have to hurry: as of April 17, 2023, you'll only have two options left.
