New George Martin Content Has Winds of Winter Fans Riled Up — Again
A Song of Ice and Fire author memes about his hard work on Winds of Winter on social media, but fans point out he should actually start working hard, instead.
Summary:
- The last ASoIaF book came out in 2011 which frustrates George Martin ’s fans.
- Recently, the author posted a meme about his hard work on Winds of Winter.
- Fans made a point of telling GRRM what they think about his writing timings.
George Martin is largely loved as the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series that gave birth to Game of Thrones. Fans adore the writer…but (jokingly or not) hate him at the same time, and they have quite a good reason. As of the time of writing, it’s been well over a dozen years since the last ASoIaF book came out!
Since the release of A Dance with Dragons back in 2011, GRRM’s fans have kept calling the author out on taking an ungodly amount of time to finish the next book. Winds of Winter has long become both a meme and the symbol of fans’ desperation, but George Martin always makes a point of claiming he’s working on it tirelessly.
What Did George Martin Do This Time?
Recently, GRRM posted a meme on his X (formerly Twitter) account that suggests that while everyone thinks he’s goofing around all day, he’s actually writing the next book all the time. While the meme itself is cute, it caused quite an understandable reaction: why are there memes getting posted on social media if Martin is working?
You bet, the fans of the author immediately swarmed him in the comment section. While some comments are undeniably supportive and suggest that George Martin takes as long as he needs to finish his new book… Most fans aren’t that kind.
How Did the Fans React to GRRM’s Meme?
Since posting memes about working hard is not quite the same as working hard, George Martin’s fans did not take the latest post of the author lightly.
“Winds of Winter would’ve been finished years ago if that’s what you were actually doing,” wrote MasterSage_.
Others even claimed that after such a long time, no one either expects or needs GRRM to finally deliver on his promises.
“Bro, it’s been 10 years. We’re good at this point,” quipped munozjose_.
Others reminded George Martin about his most recent “update” — a Game of Thrones cookbook which was probably really low on everyone’s priority list. “Better not be another cookbook,” pointed out some fans. Others suggested that the second photo was either taken years ago or when GRRM was proofreading those recipes.
It’s pretty safe to say that fans were not exactly thrilled to watch the slowest author in the world make memes about being productive. But realistically, George Martin himself ridicules his waiting fans often enough, so this reaction is totally deserved.
