New Fantastic Four Update Explains the Controversial Time Jump
And it makes total sense.
Summary:
- The MCU ’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot starring Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby is rumored to have a significant time jump.
- Marvel’s insider Daniel Ritchman has recently revealed that the future film may possibly stick to the original comic’s timeline.
- No rumor has been confirmed so far by the MCU itself while the movie is being in the production and is set to be released in 2025.
Doctor Strange ’s example has clearly shown that alternate universes can live in relative harmony without major contradictions — and the MCU is set to develop this idea even further. With a new Fantastic Four reboot being in production, the company is seemingly focusing on hindsight rather than modern times.
Thus, insider Daniel Richtman has recently revealed that Marvel’s idea for Fantastic Four is to mainly stick to the original comic that was created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in 1961 — and also feature some themes that were relevant back then.
This rumored, but still possible suggestion comes as good news for those who previously hoped to see the story set in the era that it belongs to, so, according to Richtman, these wishes were heard by Marvel’s executives.
Yet the MCU will still add something of their own to the famous superhero team’s revival, and for now the most plausible option, as Richtman highlights, is bringing the story to an alternate universe. And even though for some fans it may seem an unnecessary plot complication, it does make sense in some way.
By having its own world separated from Marvel’s mainline universe with all the most famous superheroes in it, Fantastic Four will be able to create an independent storyline and thus won’t be obliged to somehow interact with other important characters and deal with other major events that take place in the 1960s — like Howard Stark and his elaboration of the tech that will eventually become his son Iron Man’s suit.
Though all new plot updates come from one of Marvel’s closest insiders, they’re still not confirmed by the company’s official announcements.
The upcoming Fantastic Four reboot will star Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach and so far is supposed to hit cinemas in July 2025.
