Children of The Corn has just hit theaters and while it's not an entirely awful movie, it's just unnecessary.

It also poses a question of why so many subpar Stephen King movie adaptations even exist.

This movie is already the 11th installment in the long-running franchise, inspired by the 1977 story of the same name. King's writing is impeccable and his Children Of The Corn story is no exception.

What is not the case with so many King's adaptions, or rather movies inspired by his work. Of course, there can a whole list of literal masterpieces based on Stephen King's books but watching as many movies stay way lower in their quality as the creator behind their stories deserves – well, it's just painful.

Most of the noticeable King's adaptations that really have captured our eyes and minds were made before the turn of the millennium. What happened after that is a slew of hit and miss movies — more miss than hit.

This is definitely not to say that there should be fewer attempts on adapting King's works for big and small screens, mind you!

The only question is why return time and again to reboot or continue already existing movies, having put no effort at all in it. And that's exactly the case of the new Children Of The Corn film. It brings nothing new to the table.

The movie follows the same premise its predecessors did, with children's cult hell-bent on age-based mass murder. Sometimes you feel for the characters, although just weakly enough to barely notice it.

As a horror movie, this one just isn't scary, although it does offer some graphic scenes. This movie doesn't work on any level, and you mostly spend your time waiting for what you already know is going to happen, but minus the suspense.

With movies based on King's novel often performing not so great at the box office, and with movies like the latest Children Of The Corn one, it is easy to see why expectations for the future King adaptations can get lower and lower.

And King is an author which deserves adaptations that do the original books justice.
