New Blade Update Reveals One Thing From Wesley Snipes’ Movies Will Remain
There has been a lot of speculation about whether the movie will be R-rated like its predecessors, but now the director is finally setting the record straight.
Summary:
- The original Blade movies are now hailed as some of the best pre-MCU superhero films
- The reboot, which will be part of the MCU, has been stuck in development hell for years, making fans extremely worried
- A new update from the director suggests that not only is the movie still in the works, but that it will retain one of the most important aspects of the original – its rating
Before the rise of the MCU in 2008, the situation with movies based on Marvel characters was drastically different, as without an overall direction, they were all incredibly hit and miss.
For every success like 2002's Spider-Man, there was an embarrassing flop like 2003's Daredevil, making going to the theater to see a Marvel film a bit of a gamble.
The Modern Superhero Classics
The Blade movies, starring Wesley Snipes as the titular vampire hunter, were among the good ones, at least until the third and final film, which was completely underwhelming.
Still, the first two installments of the franchise are fondly remembered by fans even decades after their respective releases in 1998 and 2002, praised for great and violent action, a decent story, cool visuals, and an overall dark atmosphere.
They were also R-rated, which was a rare trait for superhero movies until relatively recently, making Blade one of the first superhero movies to receive such a rating.
With the advent of the MCU and its goal to eventually include all of Marvel's superheroes, many fans were eagerly awaiting when Blade would finally join the cinematic universe.
Unfortunately, the project was stuck in development hell for years, set back by one major problem after another.
Now a new update suggests that the movie is finally moving forward with Mahershala Ali still attached to the role of Eric Brooks (despite some fans suspecting otherwise after all this time) and will preserve one of the most important aspects of its predecessors.
What Will the New Blade’s Rating Be?
In an interview with Deadline, the film's director, Yann Demange, confirmed that the new Blade movie will also be R-rated, which has been the subject of much speculation for a long time.
According to the filmmaker, it is crucial to "unleash" the "ferocity" of the character, which is perfectly conveyed by Mahershala Ali.
This makes Blade the second confirmed R-rated movie in the MCU, along with the upcoming Deadpool 3, much to the delight of fans.
They have long feared that the movie would become a standard PG-13 MCU flick, but this new development actually increases the movie's chances of becoming something truly special, just as the original was.
For now, unless some other issue suddenly arises, Blade is scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025.
