It’ll make you question your favorite influencers.

Summary:

  • Netflix will soon release the new documentary, following the sect working on a basis of the entertainment management firm and the bloggers involved in it.
  • It’s going to present a high-class true-crime story for all lovers of the genre.

Netflix seems to dominate the documentary scene with its banger docs attracting the attention of millions around the world. You can recall the recent success of What Jennifer Did, the shocking film that reigned supreme in the platform’s chart for weeks.

More than that, these days the top is dominated by another doc, Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, and it even managed to dethrone Netflix’s biggest hit of 2024 so far, Baby Reindeer. It all makes the documentary coming to the platform much more anticipated.

The upcoming movie revolves around Miranda Derrick, a dancer whose hype on social media is hard to overestimate. While her viral videos and sleek photos gain millions of likes on TikTok and Instagram, her life behind the camera seems to be much darker than those images.

Back in 2022, her sister Melanie, also a TikTok performer, and her parents Kelly and Dean made public that they totally lost connection with their beloved Miranda and that she might be involved in a cult organization, led by her manager, Robert Shinn.

It turns out that in 2021 Derrick joined the entertainment management firm named 7M Films, owned by Shinn, who is also a pastor at the Shekinah Church, appearing to be a Pentecostal religious sect. The evidence provided in Netflix’s docufilm proves Derrick ended up in a sect too, rather than in a simple agency promoting influencers.

It is going to demonstrate the testimonies of people who fled Shinn’s company, who claim it promises the talented ones to bring them more popularity and money, then cuts them off from society and their close people and starts using them for their own goals.

Titled Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, it will explore the topics of social media success and the darkest ways by which it can be reached, including participating in numerous cult-like organizations like 7M Films and leaving your families away.

It’s a must-watch for the fans of the true crime genre and, in particular, for those who enjoyed other Netflix’s documentaries about sects, like The Family, Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator (both 2019) and the chilling Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey (2022).

Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult is set to become a new top-tier hit, so mark the day of May 29th, when it will be available for streaming on Netflix.
