It’s even bolder and more important these days.

Back in 2018, the world saw the first season of Netflix ’s Élite, a teen show that explored a number of mature themes. These included the struggles of defining one’s sexuality, class inequality, drug use, other illicit activities and, finally sexual misconduct and abuse.

Moreover, Élite proved people’s interest in Spanish original series, and this trend has been continued not only by Money Heist and Cable Girls, but also by the new top-tier show that raises international and socially important issues and does it impeccably.

It starts by introducing us to the trio of high school friends, Alma, Greta and Nata. Their calm life full of juicy gossip and jokes is about to be changed completely, as Alma secretly hangs a banner in their school that says there is a rapist hiding there.

We aren’t quick to learn why she does it, what person and what case she has in mind doing it, as well as the investigators, who come there in search of the truth. It will test Alma’s relationship with both her friends and enemies, as well as her plans for life.

The series appears to be adapted from Miguel Sáez Carral’s 2021 novel that is in fact based on the real-life cases of two women who were sexually assaulted, Chanel Miller and Daisy Coleman. The devastating story of the latter woman was already told in Netflix’s documentary Audrie & Daisy (2016).

Thus, this drama is perceived as even darker than Élite, if we take its real-life basis into account. Besides, the show’s main leitmotif is indeed extremely relevant and painful these days, so its hype is not only completely reasonable, but also is a good sign for us.

Titled Raising Voices (originally Ni una más), this show assembles the stars of Prime Video ’s massively hyped movie My Fault (2023), Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara, as well as Clara Galle, the leading actress of Through My Window (2022).

Aired on May 31, the series is now holding the 2nd place on Netflix’s global chart, topping even one of its biggest projects, Bridgerton. Besides, it has already gained a decent score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, proving it’s a great choice for binge-watching.

Check out this bold drama series as it's available for streaming on Netflix.
