Netflix’s 2020 Thrilling Horror Is Your Must-Watch If You Liked The Invisible Man
That time when Airbnb wasn't the best idea.
Summary:
- The horror genre has been centring on ghosts and supernatural creatures all along, but the movies where the creepy supervision is the focus of the storyline may appear to be even scarier — and one of such films can be streamed on Netflix.
- Starring The Bear ’s star Jeremy Allen White, the movie follows two couples who decide to spend a weekend in a small house near the coast, but the idyllic place turns into a trap with repetitive entanglement of lies and violence.
- Though the film didn’t perform well in the box office, it still got critical acclaim landing a solid score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Though there are plenty of horror movies that will spook everyone with numerous supernatural and creepy-looking creatures, the kind of horror movies with the silent supervision put in the center of the plot is even creepier.
Keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats with a compelling plot and never-ending intrigues and tension that breaks out among the characters, The Rental may cause even more of concern for those who overthink about being watched during their weekend stay in a rented idyllic place.
What Is The Rental About?
Directed by Dave Franco, The Rental stars Dan Stevens, Alison Brie, Jeremy Allen White and Sheila Vand as two couples who decide to have a getaway weekend in a small house near the Oregon Coast. They’re almost immediately confronted by the property owner Taylor, portrayed by Toby Huss, who turns out to be quite suspicious due to his intention to closely watch the house while the couples stay there.
Eager to find out what Taylor is up to, the characters get entangled into a whole mess full of mutual affairs, accusations, violence and death.
Did The Rental Perform Well in Box Office?
Though The Rental can’t boast of any significant achievement in the box office (released in 2020, the movie grossed only $4 million against the budget of $3.5 million — it’s fine though, there was a pandemic after all), it nonetheless got the critical acclaim that earned the film a solid score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The viewers weren’t that gracious towards the movie though, attributing it only 47%, but given that The Rental eventually ended up being on Netflix the chances are that the movie will find more of its audience in there.
For those who enjoyed Jeremy Allen White’s psychologically tortured Carmy in the Hulu hit series The Bear, The Rental may even become a new guilty pleasure.
