Steven S. DeKnight believes that making Daredevil: Born Again as a new show instead of continuing the original was done out of greed.

After it was announced that the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again TV series would star Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal reprising their roles from the Netflix show, many fans wondered why the creators couldn't just continue the series without rebranding it.

It seems the answer is greed, as Steven S. DeKnight, who was the showrunner for the first season of the Netflix Daredevil series, shed light on the nature of this decision, calling it "an old Disney scam" in his post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to DeKnight, it was done simply to reset the terms of the contract to those of the first season, as Born Again is technically an entirely new series and not the fourth season of the original show.

While Steven, in addition to being the showrunner, helped write the story for season 1 and directed one episode, he won't receive any credit for the new show.

Although DeKnight mentioned that he is eager to see Born Again, he believes this is a dishonest practice and encouraged Hollywood guilds and unions to pay attention to it.

Fans fear that Disney's greed may end up hurting the new show, as the company has effectively burned bridges with many talented people who worked on the Netflix series and could have joined the production of this one.

The new show could have built on an incredibly strong foundation of three seasons of its predecessor that many fans still remember and love, making it a triumphant comeback for the series.

Instead, Disney decided to kill two birds with one stone by taking familiar faces from the original, calling it a reboot, and trying to reinvent the show almost from scratch.

Of course it is way too early to bury Born Again, but it has already been mentioned that it will be very different from its predecessor, which might not be a good sign.

Either way, we won't know if the Disney show is on par with the Netflix one or just a bland copy of it until it's actually released.

Daredevil: Born Again was expected sometime in the spring of 2024, but it may be delayed due to the ongoing strikes.

Would you have preferred Born Again to be a revival of Netflix's Daredevil, or are you okay with it being a fresh start?
