Netflix Needs to Bring Its 93% Rated Original Sci-Fi Series Back, ASAP
The only revival we want to see.
In this era of reboots, remakes and revivals, many people are looking for original content. However, some shows were so good and exciting, and ended so unfairly quickly, that you want to return to them over and over again.
The circumstances that led to the cancellation of a particular series may vary. But as long as there is a demand and a really good story behind it, every show deserves a second chance.
And now that Netflix is at the height of its popularity and has huge revenues, it seems that their budgets could allow for the return of shows that many fans still consider classics. For fans of the science fiction genre, Sense8 has always been one of those shows. And nearly a decade later, it remains as relatable and compelling as ever. Your move, Netflix.
Why Was Sense8 Cancelled?
Created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski for Netflix, Sense8 is a sci-fi story of 8 strangers from different parts of the world who are connected by the mysterious power and psychic link that allows them to access each other's feelings, emotions, skills, memories and knowledge.
Although it gives them an undeniable advantage in life, it also causes many problems and puts them in danger of being chased down.
Many believe that Sense8 was simply ahead ogf its time, when in reality it cost Netflix too much to produce. Considering the filming involved several different countries, a lot of action and many visual effects, one can imagine how much money this would cost.
On the other hand, the efforts, the time and the money spent on the show definitely paid off. The first season landed 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the second one broke its own record with 93%.
Looking at other sci-fi series which are getting created today, like Halo, that use the budgets of whole movie franchises, but end up trashed by both critics and audience, the cancellation of such shows as Sense8 seems to be really unfair. With better promotion, it could’ve been an instant hit.
If you are interested in checking Sense8 out and seeing all the potential the story had for yourself, the two seasons of the show are available for streaming on Netflix.
