It is one of the best science fiction action movies of the last decade.

Summary:

  • Snowpiercer, a 2013 sci-fi film directed by Bong Joon-ho, is now available to watch on Netflix.
  • The idea for the movie came to the director in 2005, when he came across the post-apocalyptic French graphic novel Le Transperceneige.
  • Snowpiercer tells of a post-apocalypse where people live on a constantly moving train and are strictly divided into rich and poor.

Over the course of several years, the Korean film industry has increased its power and conquered a rather large niche in the Western market. And director Bong Joon-ho is one of the undisputed leaders of South Korean cinema right now.

Each of his new works has reached new heights, until the film Parasite triumphed at the Oscars, where the fight for the statuette was fierce – with the participation of Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese.

Snowpiercer Now Available on Netflix

Bong Joon Ho's dystopian film Snowpiercer premiered 11 years ago, but it was only released on Netflix in February.

Upon its theatrical release, the movie was an overwhelming success – Snowpiercer was consistently included in lists of the best films of the year, and it still holds a 94% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Snowpiercer is an Adaptation of a French Graphic Novel

Back in 2005, Bong Joon-ho was walking past a bookstore, and on one of the shelves he noticed a French comic book called Le Transperceneige, which tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world where the Earth is completely covered in ice and life on it has become impossible.

What is Snowpiercer About?

The last survivors live on a train that has been traveling around the planet for many years thanks to a perpetual engine. During this time, a hierarchy was established: the elite lived in the head cars, the middle class was (can you believe it) in the middle, and the poorest lived in the tail, where there was neither normal food nor any amenities.

Several times the train has been rocked by riots, and each time the train guards have drowned the rioters in blood.

At the time of the events of the movie, the tension has reached another point, so the leaders of the poor – old man Gilliam (John Hurt) and a young man named Curtis (Chris Evans ) are planning another uprising.

The goal of the rebels is simple – to get to the first car where the owner of the train, Wilford (Ed Harris), lives and seize power.

The riot is triggered by a sudden raid by the train's authorities, who take several children into the front cars. After that, the people wait for the next food distribution and start the next coup.

Snowpiercer Develops the Same Topic as Parasite

Like Parasite, Snowpiercer is about class inequality, about the difference between the rich and the poor. And about how these poor people try to change at least something in their lives.

Only the approach is different – if in Parasite the Kim family gets a job with the rich, in this project the only way to change something is through revolution.
