The upcoming series’ new lead character is already pretty much underrated.

Fans’ long wait for NCIS return to the screens in a few months now surely seems to be something worth trying everyone’s patience as the franchise is coming back with three of its shows later this year.

With two of them revolving around the beloved characters of the original series, the NCIS universe will finally give its fans what they’ve wanted for years, allowing them to take a closer look at Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David’s professional and personal paths since the time they both left NCIS.

Though the upcoming spinoff got a pretty much logical title NCIS: Tony & Ziva, such a decision now appears to be unfair towards another lead character that, according to the show’s actor, will come up on the main stage as well.

What Will NCIS: Tony & Ziva Be About?

Following Tony and Ziva’s romance from the earlier seasons, NCIS gave huge updates on their storyline as the couple eventually ended up having a daughter named Tali and soon after that left the MCRT to pursue other goals, with Ziva seemingly being killed off, but then brought back safe and sound.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva will reunite both characters in Europe as they keep carrying out their missions while also trying to prioritize their family. Now that the show’s release is approaching, the idea of the series focusing on Tony and Ziva’s relationship with their daughter doesn’t seem so convincing as, according to Tony’s actor Michael Weatherly, the spinoff’s title should’ve been a bit different, yet more accurate.

Ahead of the show’s premiere on CBS, Weatherly revealed that NCIS: Tony & Ziva will still follow its titular characters wherever their jobs take them, but now it’s not the same as it was in the original series, as Tony and Ziva’s daughter Tali is now just as important to the plot as her parents.

Weatherly then clarified that his and Cote de Pablo’s characters have their priorities shifted as “every choice that Tony and Ziva have to make in their adventure, their child is first and foremost in the front of their mind.”

The actor then stated that the spinoff’s title is somewhat inaccurate regarding Tali’s major role in everything Tony and Ziva will get into, and suggested that the creators should’ve made it up to the overlooked character by calling the series Tony, Ziva & Tali.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva doesn’t yet have a release date, but it’s expected to air on CBS this fall.
