NCIS Once Reunited Mark Harmon With His Famous Co-Star, But You Probably Forgot
Freaky Friday’s couple showed up on the screen once again long before the sequel came around.
With more than two decades spent on the screens, NCIS ’ franchise had a low chance to ever avoid most of the successful shows’ tradition of getting itself some major guest stars in cameo roles.
Throughout the years, the original show has seen its characters come and go, with many side ones portrayed by Hollywood’s biggest stars, but it seems like one of such roles came as some kind of homage to Mark Harmon’s famous movie from years ago.
In fact, the new character was a total match for Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ actor, though it didn’t last as long as in his 2003 film anyway.
NCIS’ season 9 episode 16 titled Psych Out introduced Dr. Samantha Ryan, the head of the Department of Defense's PsyOps Division, portrayed by none other than Jamie Lee Curtis.
Fans of the 2000s’ comedies will instantly connect the dots since Curtis already starred alongside Mark Harmon in a fantasy movie Freaky Friday where the actors played a couple.
NCIS didn’t come as an exception and made it clear that there was definitely a spark between Samantha and Gibbs when both had their teams working on the same case.
Eventually Curtis’ performance wasn’t limited to just a couple of episodes and the actress stayed in the show for a while, becoming Gibbs’ love interest.
Things got complicated for both when Samantha was told that her ex-husband had got out of jail, which forced her to abandon all the connections she established with NCIS, including Gibbs who was left alone once again.
Despite Jamie Lee Curtis’ exit from CBS’ police procedural franchise, the actress will soon have yet another reunion with Mark Harmon on the screen. The recently announced sequel Freaky Friday 2 has already confirmed that both actors are set to reprise their roles as an already married couple Tess and Ryan.
The movie is reportedly in the works and for now is scheduled for the release sometime in 2025.
