NCIS: Hawai’i Has Another Replacement for Jessica Knight, but Fans Are So Done With Him
Among all the others, this new candidate doesn’t seem to be that great for many reasons.
With all the NCIS franchise’s shows being over for a while until new seasons for some of them come later this year, the biggest problem to resolve isn’t even NCIS: Hawai’i’s cliffhanger that will probably never get its explanation, but rather Jessica Knight’s position.
In NCIS season 21 finale, the character left no doubts that she’s down for the big changes coming in her way after she accepted a big promotion. While it’s still uncertain whether she will in fact leave the entire show or will show up every so often as a guest star, what comes clear is that Knight’s position will soon become vacant for another character to take over, and, it’s fair to say, there’s already a long list of worthy candidates.
Though every single one of them has their own merits that would help them earn Jessica's position in the team, one character would surely be a rare choice if it came for fans’ decision.
After a long run between NCIS spinoffs like NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawai’i, both of which were eventually canceled, Special Agent Sam Hanna might make his way to the original show. This comes as quite an unexpected option given that before Jessica Knight’s position was only considered (by fans, of course) for strong female characters featured in NCIS’ shows.
Though Sam Hanna appears to have enough experience to take over Jessica Knight’s duties, there are still several reasons why he’s the least likely candidate of all.
For a while now, NCIS: Hawai’i’s fans have been vocal about some controversy regarding Sam Hanna and his colleague Jane Tennant’s dynamics. Before the spinoff was scrapped by CBS, the characters were frequently shown working in duo, something that would surely lead them to establish a special kind of relationship.
While the series seemingly tried to feature some kind of closer partnership on screen, many fans noted that Sam and Jane’s relationship had in fact some toxic note claiming that Sam was trying to babysit Jane throughout their missions.
Another major reason to opt for a different character to follow in Knight’s footsteps is NCIS’ long-standing feminist trend that started back in 2004 when Caitlin Todd’s position was taken over by then newcomer Ziva David. Since then it’s become something of a tradition for a strong female character to take up the duties of another strong female character.
So far NCIS has a whole variety of options to consider when it’s time for Jessica Knight to leave the MCRT, and all of those options look much more promising than Sam Hanna in every possible way.
