Missy Deserves Better: Latest Storyline Exposes Young Sheldon's Biggest Flaw

Viewers knew from the start that the eponymous character (played by Iain Armitage) would move to Pasadena at the age of 14.

And pretty much everyone knew that The Big Bang Theory had run its course.

While it would be remiss of us to say that there will never be some sort of cast reunion for TBBT, the chances of any meaningful show coming out of what remains of it are slim to none.

Let's face it, any spin-off runs the risk of being the next Joey – and any sequel to The Big Bang Theory could easily go down that route.

With that said, the show was so huge that it's difficult to imagine the franchise has no future beyond Sheldon leaving East Texas.

Young Sheldon 's viewing figures are a testament to its continued popularity. More than 7.5 million of us tuned in to watch the recent episode "A Launch Party and a Whole Human Being".

But which member of the Cooper family would warrant their own show next? Clearly not George Sr – who is set to meet his maker soon.

A show following Georgie feels like it would simply be a replica of so many that have gone before. There really isn't enough substance in the character to take it in any direction that would not feel a little cliché unless the showrunners start heading that way with his character arc pretty soon.

So the favourite would have to be Missy who has everything going for her; she became a firm favourite the minute she was introduced as Sheldon's sister in TBBT, she is the twin of the protagonist, and she's by far the most well-rounded of the Cooper kids.

Missy is already primed for development. She has the makings of a nuanced character – and a fanbase to boot.

But with time running out for the show, she needs to be put front and centre of the plot (obviously alongside Sheldon) so that we can get to know her better and start to connect with her.

And it seems the writers may have inadvertently set Missy up for her own spin-off anyway.

By neglecting her character arc in favour of the family breakdown – and almost sidelining her with the recurring Paige story – they have largely ignored what she could bring to the show.

This is in keeping with Missy's recent behaviour and her challenging her parents saying they ignore her. And this means that her story is now ready to be told.

There is a great opportunity here to expand her part in the show in what may well be its final season.

They owe it to the character, to Raegan Revord, and to the fans.
