Miss Lost in Translation? Scarlett Johansson’s New Dramedy Drops in Theaters This Week
The actress will be lost again…but this time in a conspiracy.
It’s been more than 20 years since the world saw Sofia Coppola’s romantic hit Lost in Translation that not only became a cult classic, but also made a worldwide star of Scarlett Johansson and marked the actress’ shift to adult roles.
Nowadays the MCU icon is one of the most demanded performers in the industry, and her drama talent shines bright in 2019’s Marriage Story. Johansson is going to continue her successful movie streak with the comedy-drama that is now coming to theaters.
Set in the 1960s, the movie is going to depict a shocking love story that happens in the heat of the notorious Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union.
It follows a marketing specialist (played by Johansson) who is hired to fix NASA's public image and to stage a back-up fake Moon landing just in case something goes wrong. There she meets a man who is none other than the executive who is in charge of Apollo 11 launch, and the two can’t resist the powerful force of attraction to each other.
The upcoming movie blends romantic comedy, historical drama and, moreover, thriller elements related to the Apollo 11 controversy. The latter aspect will be of much interest for those who enjoy conspiracy theories and mysteries of those distant times.
Overall, its premise seems to be both ridiculous and promising, as the Space Race is a great inspiration for curious speculations and gags. Nevertheless, the idea to mess this historical issue (that is still painful, though) with a romance can seem questionable.
Johansson is no stranger to romantic flicks, and it’s proved by her brilliant performances in Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). Her new co-star Channing Tatum, known for 2010’s Dear John, is also very much of a romantic hero.
Titled Fly Me to the Moon, this dramedy promises to satisfy people’s interest in unlikely love stories on screen. The streaming success of Nicole Kidman ’s A Family Affair and Anne Hathaway ’s The Idea of You proves we need more movies of that kind.
Luckily, this movie drops in theaters already this Friday, so don’t miss a chance to observe a cosmic love story with Fly Me to the Moon.
