We are unapologetically excited about this.

You may or may not support the idea of Mamma Mia getting a threequel, but let's be honest: no matter how good the third movie turns out, the return of Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan will definitely make it better.

Well, according to the franchise creator Judy Craymer, there is a chance for Streep to come back — however, there is one condition.

It has nothing to do with money, though; despite the fact that Meryl is a huge name in Hollywood, the compensation is not as much of an issue as the script.

"There is a story there, and I do think Meryl should come back – and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna," Craymer told Deadline.

According to her, the story for the third movie is currently in the early stages, even though the threequel is not yet completely official.

Craymer also hopes that Donna's mother Ruby, portrayed by Cher, could make a comeback after her appearance in the 2018 sequel, Here We Go Again.

The Mamma Mia creator always planned for it to be a trilogy, so chances are, the third movie is a lot closer than we thought.

Still, the official confirmation is yet to arrive; but it's safe to say that the cast is almost as excited for the threequel as the fans.

Lily James, who portrayed young Donna, even joked that the third movie could be titled The DNA Test, so that the characters and the viewers can finally learn who the dad was.

Sounds pretty much like a concept for a grand trilogy finale if you ask us! It would be such an end of an era though.

If Mamma Mia 3 happens after all, we will have to spend some time rewatching the first two movies (and re-listening to all ABBA albums), because the release is highly unlikely to be scheduled any sooner than 2025.
