Megan Fox Turned Down Iconic Role In $275 Million Movie Because of Angelina Jolie
Megan did not want to be a carbon copy of the famous actress.
In the 2000s, Megan Fox topped rankings of the world's sexiest women. Men bought posters with her image, and women copied her style, makeup, and sometimes even went under the surgeon's knife to become like her.
The actress owes much of her career to her radiant appearance, which is partly the merit of professional surgeons. After a resounding start with the movie Transformers Megan was referred to as the new Angelina Jolie.
However, such comparisons did not suit the actress, and one day she turned down a role in a cult movie just because she would be compared to Jolie.
A reboot of the Lara Croft franchise was planned with Megan Fox in the title role.
However, before the fans of the original movies had time to discuss such a decision, which at first seemed successful, it was announced that Megan would not take part in the movie.
"The offer has been on the table for Megan for a while but she's reluctantly turned it down. She's the logical choice to play Lara and she loves the character but the comparison with Angelina [Jolie] is too much," an insider revealed to Showbiz Spy.
The actress was uncomfortable with any comparisons and she wanted to prove that she was an independent actress and a bright personality, and not next Jolie.
In the 2018 reboot, Alicia Vikander played Lara Croft, the independent and strong daughter of missing adventurer Richard Croft, who is willing to take on any challenge to find her father.
The film grossed nearly $275 million at the worldwide box office with a budget of just $94 million.
A second movie combining the plots of the video games Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider was also planned, but due to the pandemic, the filming was postponed indefinitely.
Eventually, despite the fact that the movie performed well commercially, MGM studio abandoned filming the sequel.
