MCU Fans Fear Blade Won't See the Light of Day After All
The WGA strike only added to a huge mess of problems surrounding the production of the film.
The MCU debut of vampire hunter Blade can't get a break from a pile of problems surrounding its production. And now, with the Writers Guild of America strike in effect, the process has been put completely on hold.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, while the studio has just hired Nic Pizzolatto, known for his work on the TV series True Detective, they simply didn't have enough time for him to start working on the script, so the process will only begin after the strike is over.
This new blow to the highly anticipated film made fans wonder if it will ever be released at all.
The work on the script of the film has begun 10 years ago now, back in 2013, and in 2019 Mahershala Ali was assigned to play the new iteration of the character.
As fans point out, Marvel has released over 20 other movies in those 10 years, while the script for Blade hasn't even been completed yet.
They also say that since Ali is already 49 years old, the chances of the character staying in the MCU for a long time are getting slimmer every year, as the role is supposed to be pretty action-packed.
Fans are afraid that the actor might simply walk away from the project, as it has had a lot of problems since its official release in 2019, and that would only set back the little progress that has been made.
Others even believe that it would be better to just recast the character and start from scratch since even the script is not finished yet.
Both outcomes seem rather unlikely though, as if Ali just drops out of the production it would most likely cause some repercussions if the studio just decides to recast the role.
But there is still the danger that the movie will be scrapped completely, as there is still almost no progress on it after so many years.
No matter what happens, one thing is for sure: Blade is completely stuck in development limbo, and will most likely not be released on its scheduled date of September 6, 2024.
