Matt LeBlanc Could Have Played Ross' Love Interest on Friends
Carol turned out to be the gay one in the relationship, but it could just as easily have been Ross (yes, even in the '90s).
In an old interview, Matt LeBlanc shared that he could have played Ross' love interest because he "originally auditioned for Rachel."
This would make or break Friends (but we would watch it regardless!). The reason he didn't get the part?
Apparently, the casting directors thought that "too much penis" would make LeBlanc's Rachel less lovable. Well, not really – it didn't stop Chandler's dad from becoming one of the show's most beloved supporting characters.
In the same interview, Courteney Cox addressed the common misconception that she auditioned for Rachel. The actress claimed that it wasn't true (she was just "considered" for the part).
She actually pulled a Monica during her audition. Apparently, Cox read the script and thought that Monica would be a more suitable character for her to play.
She managed to convince everyone, and the rest is history. Could Courteney be any more like her character? A perfect fit!
In an episode of Off Camera with Sam Jones, the actress elaborated on her decision to turn down the role of Rachel.
She "related more to Monica" because she was "very similar to her" (well, duh!). Courteney felt that she wasn't as "clean" or as "competitive" as her character, even though some people in her life would disagree.
Whatever the reason might be, we are glad that Courteney got to play Monica, paving the way for the one and only Rachel Green, portrayed by wonderful Jennifer Aniston.
Friends is a hit show that has kept people hooked for almost 30 years now. There are a lot of sitcoms out there, but none are as impactful or memorable as Friends.
One of the reasons for its success is definitely the cast – their relationship on screen and off screen is what continues to give life to the show.
Without them, it would probably be just another sitcom that would sink into oblivion as soon as the finale aired.
