After having a private talk with Tom Cruise, Matt Damon was thoroughly shocked and decided he was more than fine with his own approach, thank you very much.

As ambiguous as he is, Tom Cruise is undeniably the most iconic action movie star of all time. His feats are simply unmatched, and his determination allows the actor to find and create opportunities where no one else would see them… All in all, Cruise is an utter perfectionist and a severe adrenaline junkie — here’s his secret recipe.

While his approach is incredibly efficient, it’s really not for everyone. Cruise is demanding of himself and others, and he doesn’t have the patience to explain his vision for a second time. If you didn’t understand him immediately, he grows increasingly frustrated — and that’s why he prefers doing as much as possible himself.

At that, Tom Cruise knows no matches. If this man has an idea, no one can tell him otherwise…without grave consequences for themselves, at least. Cruise’s approach to acting, teamwork, and stunt action is so extreme that it scared off Matt Damon. After speaking to Cruise in private, Damon refused to take any advice from him.

The two had dinner together, and Matt used this chance to ask his colleague about one of his most famous stunts ever: the Burj Khalifa ascent.

"I asked him, 'Can you tell me how that happened?' Now, he’s a really intense guy, he goes like, 'Yeah, I’ll tell you how it happened. I’ve been thinking about this shot for 15 years.' I am like, 'Wow, really!' and he says, 'So I go to the safety guy and I lay it all out. Safety guy says we can’t do it. ‘It is too dangerous, you can’t do it.’ So, I get a new safety guy,'" recalls Damon.

The actor was shocked by his colleague's revelation and had to interrupt him. After learning his approach, he realized he didn’t need Tom Cruise’s advice on doing action scenes, after all: he was comfortable as he was.

"That’s the beginning of his story and I say, 'Stop!' That’s where we are different. Like, when the safety guy says no, I am like, 'The safety guy said that’s not a good idea,'" explained Damon.

Matt Damon’s just one more example of how Tom Cruise’s approach only applies to Tom Cruise. While it’s true that the actor’s a unique professional, he’s just built different, you know? You can’t copy Cruise and expect to stay alive.
