Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 Has Joel Screwing Up Big Time

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a show that has a lot to offer its fans. There's the story of a woman building her future against all odds.

It is an example of a stupidly failed marriage, but with partners who continue to care for each other through life.

And of course, the series gives us strong enough characters who have the courage to do things they never imagined they could do. And not just for their own sake, but for the sake of those they love and want to protect.

The best example of such a character is of course Joel Maisel, Midge's ex-husband.

While having the "ex" in his title, he still cared a lot about her, despite the many things that had happened to them over 5 seasons.

And there was a lot: betrayals, failed engagements, fights over children, secrets, and the list goes on. But one thing always felt strange about all the misunderstandings they had.

They still wanted to be in each other's lives and help each other no matter what.

So when Joel finds out in season 5 that Susie, Midge's manager, has a little secret that could theoretically put her in danger, he decides to act immediately.

The thing is, in the earlier seasons of the show, viewers were introduced to Frank and Nicky, two mobsters who were originally hired to behead Susie but instead became her friends of sorts.

But as you might guess, that kind of friendship is never based on pure love.

As it turned out, Frank and Nicky had a piece of every client Susie had over the years ( all the way up until she became a world-famous manager).

And of course, at the beginning of her career, her biggest client was Mrs. Maisel. And Joel finds out about this and decides to make his move.

First, he confronts Susie, breaks into her office and tries to find the books where she kept information about her deal with the mob, and that almost got him arrested.

And then, having nothing to discuss with Susie, he decides to confront Frank and Nicky and talk to them directly, offering himself instead of Midge's share.

At first, it seemed like a heroic gesture! An ex-husband saving the mother of his children. But as it turns out, Joel's decision wasn't the wisest, and will cause many unfortunate events in the future.

Season 5 shows the year 1985, when he is arrested for involvement with the mob and crimes like racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering.

And this all happens when Joel, Midge, their son with his wife and baby are at the temple, the FBI just rushes in and takes Joel away, leaving Midge in shock.

Well, maybe if it was for Miriam to decide, she would rather share her money with the mob than having her husband in prison. But she was never given the choice, as everything happened behind her back.
