Marvel Studios Scales Back on TV for 2023: Are We in for a Disappointing Year?
Marvel fans, brace yourselves! Disney+ has just announced that only three Marvel Studios series will be premiering on their platform in 2023. This is a far cry from the plethora of content we've been blessed with this year, but we'll take what we can get.
First up is the highly anticipated series, Secret Invasion . Starring Samuel L. Jackson, this springtime thriller follows a group of shape-shifting Skrulls as they attempt to infiltrate and take over Earth. But as the characters on the show begin to question each other's identities, it's clear that not everything is as it seems. All the misunderstanding with absolutely stellar cast as cherry on top? Sign us up!
Next up is the summertime return of everyone's favorite trickster god, Loki . In the second season of the hit series, Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as the mischievous deity, joined by Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino as they journey through the multiverse once again. Plot details are scarce, but we can't wait to see how Loki and company deal with the consequences of their actions in the first season.
And finally, in the fall we have IronHeart , starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams. This highly anticipated series follows the young hero as she balances her duties as both a superhero and a brilliant MIT student. Rumor has it that this series could also mark the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, either as the voice of Riri's AI mentor or in holographic form. However, it's also possible that Marvel will hold on for this card a little longer, getting RDJ back for Secret Wars.
Unfortunately, there's no news yet on when we'll see other highly anticipated series like Echo, the second season of What If…?, or Agatha: Coven of Chaos. But with any luck, we'll get more updates as the year goes on.
Fans are already buzzing about the limited lineup for 2023, with some expressing disappointment at the lack of Echo and Agatha. "I was really looking forward to Echo and the return of What If…?, but I guess I'll have to wait until 2024," one fan wrote on social media. Others are excited to see what Secret Invasion and Loki have in store, with one fan saying, "I can't wait to see what kind of trouble Loki gets into this time around!" Overall, it looks like 2023 is shaping up to be another exciting year for Marvel fans. Maybe this time 'quality over quantity' approach will work out in Marvel's favor.
