Marvel Not Happy With Raimi's Work On 'Doctor Strange 2'? Reshoots Explained
Bringing Kevin Feige's MCU vision to life is no easy task.
The drawn-out narrative is constantly changing, and the directors in charge of Marvel films must do their best to fulfill the wishes of Marvel's mastermind. Even if they have to reshoot previously prepared material to do so.
That seems to be exactly what happened to Sam Raimi, director of 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'. Despite the film's impending May release, mandatory reshoots were taking place earlier this month.
According to Raimi's old friend and collaborator Bruce Campbell, this has nothing to do with the quality of the film itself, but rather with updating some moments of the narrative and discarding unnecessary scenes.
"The Marvel guys, they make eight of these movies at the same time, so they're always updating storylines. So, my buddy Sam has had to add scenes that [Marvel] told him he had to shoot, and he's removed scenes that no longer apply. So, until May rolls around, I don't think Benedict Cumberbatch even knows if he's in this movie or not," Cambell told Game Informer.
This is great news for fans who can't wait to see the movie as Raimi intended it. But some fans can't help but feel sorry for Benedict Cumberbatch, not only forced to co-lead with Elizabeth Olsen, despite the film being his character's spotlight, but to experience serious reshoots too.
