Marvel Execs Promise Ant-Man 3 Will Be As Significant As Civil War
It's been a big week for Marvel fans, with the release of a new trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and some pretty bold statements from a high-ranking Marvel executive that actually made us pause for a minute.
According to Stephen Broussard, Vice President of Production at Marvel Studios and producer on a number of the films, the upcoming Ant-Man film is going to be just as significant as Captain America: Civil War.
Now, before we all start getting our hopes up, let's remember that this is Marvel we're talking about here, and the studio, sadly, has a history of hyping up its movies to be the next big thing, only for them to fall short of expectations.
But, in this case, Broussard has stated that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be "pivotal" to the MCU, in the same way that Captain America: Civil War was.
For those who may not remember, Captain America: Civil War saw the fall of Avengers "team-as-family" dynamic and the Avengers being divided into two camps, with some fighting for the government control of the superpowered individuals and others against it.
Marvel's Next Big Move Should Be Casting Taron Egerton as Wolverine
It was a game-changer for the MCU, and set the stage for the films that followed. The fallout was immense, to say the least. And, if Broussard is to be believed, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will have a similar impact.
Of course, it's hard to say exactly what this means for the movie itself, but it's certainly exciting to think about. Many fans have speculated that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be the film that finally reveals the big picture of what will be going on in the MCU's Phase 5 after Phase 4 disappointment.
Kevin Feige said it would soon be clear what the future of the MCU is all about, but so far neither Thor 4 nor Black Panther 2 gave any clues. Doctor Strange sequel wasn't that big of a help too, despite introducing the whole Multiverse concept. So now, if Ant-Man 3 doesn't finally provide answers, the whole endeavor will become a bad joke.
In any case, it's clear that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is going to be an important film for the MCU. Whether it lives up to the hype or not, we'll have to wait and see. But, if Broussard is right, it's going to be a game-changer for the franchise, and a must-watch for any Marvel fan. Fingers crossed.
Mark your calendars: Ant-Man is coming to theaters February 17, 2023.
