Apparently, Kevin Feige takes no credit for making the MCU as great as we know it.

According to the Marvel Studios boss, it only happened thanks to one single actor.

Marvel Universe is the biggest and greatest cinematic universe ever, and there's no room for discussion here.

It's not a matter of personal preferences, it's merely a matter of numbers: Marvel has set absolute records everywhere it went, and no other universe has ever managed to take over since the ascent of Marvel.

Marvel's success is more than being at the right place at the right time. This massive universe has been gradually built up by thousands of people, from amazing directors like James Gunn to outstanding talents in filming crews.

Sure enough, it was all managed by the Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, but he doesn't take credit for it.

Recently, Kevin Feige addressed the reasons behind Marvel's breathtaking ascent at the 15th anniversary of Iron Man — and he ties the general success to this movie.

According to Feige, the modern Marvel Universe started as a very risky and out-of-box experiment, and it started with Iron Man.

Back then, Kevin Feige was far from being as influential as he is now, and it took much effort from him to convince the studio's executives to follow his lead. One thing he particularly struggled with.

Convincing the bosses that hiring Robert Downey Jr. was the right move was no walk in the park: the actor was still recovering from the darkest chapter in his life and hadn't seen commercial success prior to Iron Man. Feige fought for him — and won.

These days, Kevin Feige claims that hiring Robert Downey Jr. back then was "one of the greatest decisions in the history of Hollywood"; even more — Feige says that the entire success of the Marvel Universe only happened thanks to the actor!

"We wouldn't have a studio if it wasn't for him. <...> He was that puzzle piece that made it all work," says the Marvel Studios boss.

According to Feige, Downey Jr. was a great booster to both the movie's and the franchise's success.

He helped with rewriting some scenes and came up with great spontaneous improvisation on the go — and his presence and energy attracted more big-name performers like Gwyneth Paltrow. Everything became so much easier.

So yes, Kevin Feige sends all the credit for Marvel's overwhelming industry takeover to Robert Downey Jr.

It sounds like a massive statement, but let's be real: are we surprised that it was Robert whose charisma gave such a huge jump-start to MCU?
