Accidents on movie sets happen, and actors know that. But when Mark Wahlberg's face almost exploded and it was on purpose, he was furious — and was on the edge of assaulting his own movie director for that.

The movie Lone Survivor, starring Mark Wahlberg, hit the theaters back in 2013.

It's a biographical war drama about Operation Red Wings which took place in Afghanistan during the war.

It focuses on the only survivor of this mission as he's struggling to survive and showcases the brutal realities of the war in Afghanistan.

Considering the setting, it shouldn't come as a surprise that accidents were more likely to happen during the shooting of this film than they would've on the set of a rom-com.

To portray the war zone properly, you need explosions, trenches, guns, and knives… Long story short, all sorts of stuff that can hurt the actors is there.

A professional that he is, Mark Wahlberg knew what he was getting himself into when signing up for Lone Survivor.

However, the story he told Parade about what happened on set one time has nothing to do with accidents: the actor was this close to getting mangled because the movie's director, Peter Berg, lied to him.

In one of the scenes, there was a mortar going off in Wahlberg's face.

There was a classic countdown (three, two, one, boom!) which was supposed to give Mark time to move his face out of the way of the explosion.

Peter Berg decided to play it differently: without telling Wahlberg, the director ordered to fire the mortar on "two".

You can imagine what happened next: the actor had no time to react, and the mortar exploded literally in his face. Upon realizing how close he was to grave injuries, Mark's sudden rage explosion matched the one of the mortar.

"It was the first time I ever lost my cool on set and broke things and threw things and, you know, profanity-laced rant and Pete said it was my fault and I said, 'Well, I'll knock you out, too.' I stormed off the set and went to my trailer and it took me about an hour to cool down," shared Wahlberg in the interview.

In the end, both the actor and the director apologized to each other, and Mark came back to the set to continue shooting the scene.

This incident helped him feel a bit more about how treacherous and unexpected everything is at war. Wahlberg, as a son of the Korean War veteran, found even more respect for the Navy Seals.

"They are a special breed of human beings. I would borderline say superhuman in some ways," he claimed.
