Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt Both Believe They Orchestrated Their Unscripted Kiss in Babylon
Both Babylon co-stars claim that they were the ones to initiate the kiss, but which one of them really went for the unscripted lip-lock and ended up being the happiest person in the world?
Margot Robbie ’s name has been all over the Internet in the past months thanks to her latest movie Barbie and its unfathomable success. Even before that, the actress was widely popular all around the world — actually, it was The Wolf of Wall Street that launched her into international stardom, and that movie is a decade old now!
Brad Pitt… Oh, do we really need to talk about Brad Pitt? This man has been the world’s biggest heartthrob for a number of decades now, and one of the most influential and prominent A-listers in Hollywood, too. There are hardly any actors who don't wish to co-star with him… and even fewer actresses, we bet.
Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt filmed together 2022’s Babylon, and both were admittedly willing to take advantage of their on-screen partnership. This may sound weird, but how else would you call their unscripted kiss that, apparently, both of them were striving for? To this day, each of the two actors claims it was their idea to kiss.
"In Babylon, Nellie kisses a lot of people. I actually improvised a kiss that wasn't in the script. We were doing a party scene, and Nellie goes up to Brad Pitt's character and Katherine Waterston's character, and I was like, 'F*ck it. I'm just gonna kiss them and see what happens.’ They were a little bit shocked,” Robbie told W Magazine.
Brad Pitt is just as ready to take the metaphorical blame for their kiss.
"No, [it wasn't scripted]. I had asked for it if we can write that in. You know, when was I going to get a chance to do this again? And we did it. I might add, too, that Nellie kisses 15 people in this movie,” the actor revealed on The Project (via Daily Mail UK).
So, whose idea was it, really?
Our best bet is on Margot Robbie: on a separate occasion, when speaking to E! News, she described the way she set the kiss up in way more detail than Pitt ever did. Apparently, she spoke to director Damien Chazelle about it in advance.
"That wasn't in the script, but I thought, 'When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? I'm just gonna go for it.' I said, 'Damien, I think Nellie would just go up and kiss Jack. And Damien was like, 'Well, she could– wait, hold on. You just wanna kiss Brad Pitt.' And I was like, 'Oh, so sue me. This opportunity might never come up again!’” Robbie shared.
According to the actress, kissing Brad Pitt felt “just great,” and she was more than pleased when Chazelle asked them to do a retake. So yeah, it was most likely Margot’s idea — but judging by how eager Brad was to take the blame, he didn’t mind kissing his co-star at all.
