Majors Verdict Fallout: 3 Ways MCU Can Manage the Kang Crisis
Now that the actor seems to be officially fired from his position in the MCU, there are only a handful of ways for the studio to resolve this massive problem.
Summary:
- It has been reported that Jonathan Majors was dropped by Marvel Studios after being found guilty of reckless assault and harassment
- Given that the studio wanted to keep Kang the Conqueror as the next big villain, this creates a massive problem for the MCU
- However, there are at least three ways the studio can handle the situation without destroying the entire structure of the franchise
Marvel Studios is definitely in a lot of turmoil right now, as the controversial decision to not get rid of Kang the Conqueror after the Loki season 2 finale in the midst of the Jonathan Majors controversy has now backfired, just as many fans predicted.
The troubled actor was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment, which led to his immediate dismissal from the MCU, putting the future of the franchise in jeopardy.
This delicate situation doesn't leave the studio with many options, so let's take a closer look at three of the most logical ways the MCU could resolve the Kang crisis.
Will There Be A Recast Of Kang the Conqueror?
First of all, the character can simply be recast, as this is not the first time the MCU has used this practice.
The most notable examples are Bruce Banner, who was originally portrayed by Edward Norton only to be recast by Mark Ruffalo in 2012's The Avengers, and James Rhodes, who was played by Terrance Howard but was replaced by Don Cheadle after the first Iron Man movie.
In fact, recasting Kang would be even easier given the multitude of multiversal variants of the character, although the mid-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania showed that most of them share virtually the same face.
Wasn't The Kang Threat Averted In Loki Season 2?
Another great way to solve the problem is to just go with the Loki season 2 finale, as it clearly implied that, at least for now, all variants of Kang are under the watchful eye of the TVA.
One of the future installments in the MCU can simply confirm that the threat has been successfully averted and start setting up another villain, like Galactus or Doctor Doom, as the next big threat for the heroes to face.
The new villain can also destroy Kangs off-screen or in the prologue of one of the films, establishing his power and making it clear that the variants have been dealt with.
Can Any Of The Past MCU Villains Return Instead?
Introducing a new major villain prematurely can destroy the entire structure of future chapters of the MCU, so the creators might just come up with a lesser threat for the time being.
It is also a great opportunity for some of the previous villains of the franchise to make a triumphant return.
For example, fans would love to see Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin again, especially considering that the actor is open to reprising the role.
Of course, all of this remains speculation for now, as no official statements have been made, so fans will have to wait for an update on the state of the franchise, which will no doubt come sooner or later.
