Mads Mikkelsen Believes Hannibal Might Return Soon, But There’s A Catch 

Mads Mikkelsen has played many memorable roles throughout his career, from his debut as Tonny in the Pusher films to more profound and serious characters like Lucas in The Hunt or Martin in Another Round.

But arguably the role fans most want him to reprise is Hannibal Lecter, who Mikkelsen brilliantly portrayed in the Hannibal TV series, which ran for three seasons from 2013 to 2015.

And recently, the actor hinted at the possible return of this iconic character.

At the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mads, who plays ex-Nazi Jürgen Voller, was asked by Deadline if there is a chance of him reprising his legendary role, to which he replied that "there's always a chance" and that it's all about finding a new home for the series.

However, Mikkelsen pointed out that they can't wait too long, but if it happens in the next few years, they are "all ready to take it up again".

Almost a decade after the end of the third season, some fans find it hard to believe that Hannibal will return, but they still cling to the hope that they will finally get the closure they've been waiting for, since the series never got a definitive finale.

After all, it is not impossible to revive old shows these days, as was done with Dexter: New Blood, even if this particular case was extremely disappointing.

Mikkelsen's co-star, Hugh Dancy, who portrayed criminal profiler Will Graham, is also still around, appearing in various projects such as Law & Order.

And even though Mads, at 57, is now even older than Anthony Hopkins when he gave us his equally incredible portrayal of the character in 1991's The Silence of the Lambs, the actor has aged like fine wine and is still perfectly suited to the role.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.
