'Mad Max' Without... Mad Max? Fans Take Issue With 'Furiosa' Spinoff
'Mad Max' is perhaps one of the oldest beloved post-apocalyptic franchises, started in 1979 and still on the road.
'Mad Max ' is getting a spin-off titled 'Furiosa ' with Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role and Chris Hemsworth portraying a yet-to-be-specified character. However, the fans of the post-apocalyptic franchise are not ready to squeak with excitement.
First of all, the fact that Furiosa is going to be portrayed by someone who is not Charlize Theron has already put fans at odds with the upcoming movie.
Secondly, the absence of Max himself also seems to be an issue.
Even though some people are open to seeing the rest of the franchise's world.
In fact, the bar is quite high, especially in the wake of the tremendous success that 'Mad Max: Fury Road' was. Released in 2015, the movie gloriously brought the classic post-apocalyptic franchise back with the same old sway.
The upcoming spin-off will obviously focus on the origins of Imperator Furiosa, who was a war captain under Immortan Joe but ended up rebelling against him. In 'Fury Road', she meets Max Rockatansky on her journey to save the "five wives" of Joe – his female concubines. The two dislike each other at the start, but then manage to team up and successfully complete the rescue mission.
'Furiosa' will become the fifth movie in the Mad Max franchise. Aside from Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke is listed as Taylor-Joy's co-star, as well as Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus. The film is directed by George Miller – the same person who brought us 'Fury Road', which is why many fans are still ready to give 'Furiosa' a chance despite Charlize Theron not being a part of the movie.
