Despite his arrogance and sense of superiority, Lucius Malfoy was very much not immune to the winner of Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award (five times in a row).

What do we know about Lucius Malfoy, really?

He’s an unfathomably rich aristocrat from an ancient Pureblood bloodline. He’s a Death Eater, though not the most loyal one. He’s an overprotective husband and father who spoiled his only son. He’s corrupt and arrogant and believes that he’s got the entire Ministry of Magic in his pocket. He’s not quite evil but halfway there.

Lucius Malfoy is so full of himself he’d spill all around if he were a glass of water, and his ever-expanding ego must be considered a national threat by any countries that share territorial waters with Great Britain.

Lucius considers himself above anyone and anything. Quite a nasty guy, this one; but even nasty men have secret cute hobbies.

Lusius Malfoy, for one, was a huge Gilderoy Lockhart fan girl, and we are not even making this up: it’s 100% canon, and we will prove it to you right now!

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when Harry incorrectly uses the Floo powder and ends up in Borgin and Burkes, he witnesses a peculiar discussion between Lucius Malfoy and the shopkeeper. At some point, Malfoy Sr. realizes that he has to leave, and refers to some “important business” he must attend to.

“In that case, perhaps we can return to my list,” said Mr. Malfoy shortly. “I am in something of a hurry, Borgin, I have important business elsewhere today—”

With these words, he and Draco leave the shop, and Harry makes his escape, reuniting with the Weasley family. Together, they go to Flourish and Blotts to buy some books, but the shop is hosting Gilderoy Lockhart’s book signing at the time. And guess who they meet there in the crowd as they arrive?

Lucius Malfoy!

The “important business” the arrogant aristocrat mentioned to Borgin was, in fact, the book signing session, and seeing how Lucius didn’t want to be late for it, he wanted an autograph. This effectively means that Lucius Malfoy was your average Lockhart fan girl! There’s no other explanation, forget about the Diary. Lucius was just a fan.

Imagine if the real reason why Malfoy Sr. hated the Weasley family was that Molly, another Lockhart fan girl, beat him in the annual quiz of the official Lockhart fan club and won the coveted first prize of front-row tickets to his Wagga Wagga Werewolf symposium! We don’t know about you, but for us, this is definitely canon from now on.
