Lucasfilm Teases More 'Star Wars' Anime to Come, But Do We Need It?
What a time to be a 'Star Wars' fan now that Disney is offering a wide range of new projects connected to the franchise.
Lucasfilm executive James Waugh teased that 'Star Wars ' and anime "have a very, very bright future" during the final day of Star Wars Celebration. Hot on the heels of the remark, Disney Plus announced that 'Star Wars: Vision' will return to the streaming service in 2023 with volume two.
This time it won't be focused exclusively on anime, as was the case with volume 1 of the show. Instead, the anthology will embrace other animation styles as well. The second volume will include shorts made by the studios Japan, India, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Chile, France, South Africa, and the US.
Given the overwhelming amount of new Star Wars-themed shows that Disney is feeding the franchise fans with, many have suggested that Waugh's remark might tease a separate anime show based on 'Star Wars', and not necessarily refer to 'Visions' only.
Not everyone is equally excited about such a prospect, though.
Other fans argue that anime is just what the doctor ordered for the franchise.
Among other animated projects announced by Disney are season 2 of 'The Bad Batch' and the new anthology series titled 'Tales of the Jedi'. The animated shows join a large swath of other Star Wars projects, starting from 'Obi-Wan Kenobi ' that is already streaming on Disney Plus, and up to the yet-to-be-named movie by Taika Waititi that is due to bring 'Star Wars' back to the theaters after several years of cinema hiatus.
