Looks Like Joker 2 Will Recreate Iconic Scene From First Movie (This Time With Harley)
New on-set photos show a very familiar location from the original movie, now with the iconic duo.
Joker, a new take on the iconic Batman villain from director Todd Phillips, premiered in 2019 and was an instant success.
The tragic story of a mentally-ill man who turns into a monster under the pressure of society became a hit despite its R-rating, which at the time was considered a box office killer for many films.
The plot revolved around Arthur Fleck as he fell deeper and deeper into madness, eventually becoming one of the most iconic villains in the DC Universe.
Joaquin Phoenix, who brought the character to life, was highly praised for his brilliant performance and was the crown jewel of an already great movie.
With such an overwhelming success, rumors of a possible sequel immediately began to circulate.
Although the movie was originally intended to be a standalone creation, the director later stated that he wouldn't mind continuing the story if Phoenix would reprise his role.
And so, in June 2022, it was announced that the next movie, titled Joker: Folie à Deux will not only feature Joaquin Phoenix, but also Lady Gaga as his loyal sidekick from the comics, Harley Quinn.
Harleen Quinzel was the Joker's psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who eventually fell in love with the deranged criminal and joined him in his dark deeds.
As the title of the film, which translates from French as "Madness for Two," indicates, the story will depict the beginning of their insane relationship.
With filming officially set to begin in December 2022, the first photos and videos from the set have begun to appear on social media.
Multiple videos from the Joker 2 set quickly emerged on social media, with Lady Gaga apparently rehearsing a stair sequence in the footage.
The Joker's dance on the street steps became the most recognizable scene in the movie, symbolizing the completion of Arthur Fleck's transformation into the mad clown.
Now, Lady Gaga is seen in the same spot, strongly implying that fans will likely see a similar scene, but with Harley instead. Or maybe with both of them?
Fans are excited to see what the director has in store for them and hope that the reimagining of the dance will have as great a soundtrack as the original.
Folie à Deux is set to hit theaters in October 2024.
