Benedict Bridgerton may not get his time to shine for at least a couple of seasons.

The Bridgerton writers have decided to skip Benedict’s story in season 3 and jump straight to Colin’s, instantly infuriating all the loyal canon defenders, aka Julia Quinn’s book fans.

While Colin and Penelope’s tale is still far in the future, as Netflix hasn’t even confirmed a release date for season 3, its marketing seems to indicate that Benedict might not be as much in the picture as fans expect him to.

Luke Thompson is set to reprise his role as the artsy, free-spirited Benedict Bridgerton in season 3, but he is nowhere to be seen in the promo images. Netflix has released the first looks at the upcoming season, which understandably focus on Colin and Penelope’s blossoming romance.

However, a large portion of the photos and other promo materials feature Eloise. Fans believe that it could be a hint that season 4 will tell the audience her story. Unfortunately, this also signifies that Benedict’s romance will be overlooked again.

Other viewers try to keep calm and look at the rational side of things, saying that Eloise might just become a central character in season 3 (like Edwina Sharma was in season 2). After all, her storyline is not over yet! Besides, Eloise is Colin’s sister (now that Daphne will be completely gone in season 3, she might play a bigger supporting role) and Penelope’s ex-best friend, why shouldn’t she be important to their story?

Another argument is that Eloise’s book romance takes place long after Colin’s, so there needs to be a time jump between their seasons, which is a major point and probably won’t be changed in the Bridgerton series.

Eloise has a lot of growing up (and spinstering up) to do before her story begins. Colin and Penelope’s relationship is completely different – the show has been building up to it for two seasons, hence why Benedict’s story has to happen a little later.

Still, there is no confirmation from Netflix that season 4 is not going to see Benedict take center stage. Let’s wait and see what happens. For now, we should be patiently waiting for Bridgerton season 3, which will presumably break our hearts to pieces and then make them whole again.
