The much-anticipated Bridgerton season 3 may have a few surprises up its sleeve for unsuspecting viewers.

Netflix is taking its sweet time with one of its latest hit series, Bridgerton. After an immensely successful season 1 in 2020, the show was renewed for season 2, but audiences had to wait for almost a year and a half for its premiere in March 2022. Now, with seasons 3 and 4 officially confirmed, the fans will have to muster what little patience they have left and wait for the next release.

Bridgerton season 3 is rumored to be coming out this fall, but there’s no confirmation yet. Considering that the show’s spinoff, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, has just debuted in May and that the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing, audiences may have to endure the wait even longer for season 3 to grace the world with its presence.

The creators have decided to spice things up and skip Benedict’s story (which is supposed to be next in the books after Anthony’s), and the upcoming Bridgerton season 3 will focus on Colin’s tale instead.

Do you think that Bridgerton season 3 will premiere this year?

While the series has taken liberties with Julia Quinn’s book canon before, the consensus is that Colin and Penelope’s timeline will remain intact. In the novel, the build-up to the couple’s epic romance spans a decade, and season 3 will likely stick to the same chronology, which is a comforting thought for most fans, except for that one giant “but.”

If Colin and Penelope’s love story does indeed span a decade on the screen, there will be a time jump at some point in season 3. Bridgerton season 2 was set in 1814, which means season 3 could take us as far forward as 1824.

Some fans believe that this can lead to one character dying mid-season. Real-life Queen Charlotte passed away in 1818, and the writers might kill her off on the show around the same time too.

Queen Charlotte wasn’t a prominent character in the Bridgerton books, and yet, she went on to become one of the most popular characters on the show – she even got her solo series, which debuted this year!

Bridgerton and its spinoff have been more or less accurate with historical events (for example, George and Charlotte’s daughter Amelia died just as she did in real life), although there have been a few slips here and there (for instance, Charlotte’s children did not actually have arranged marriages as they did on the show).

Season 3 will be a turning point for Bridgerton in many ways, but Queen Charlotte’s fate literally hangs in the balance.
