Long Forgotten General Hospital Is Back as Fans Celebrate Sonny's Downfall
Port Charles is coming to its senses.
Summary:
- For a long time, General Hospital seemed to forget that one of its most popular characters, Sonny Corinthos, was also a ruthless mobster.
- Sonny's actions have rarely had consequences over the past 5 years, but the new head writers have managed to change that in less than 20 days.
- As Port Charles begins to remember Sonny's antics, fans are celebrating the return of the soap they fell in love with.
Although every story has main characters and supporting characters, in soap operas with large ensemble casts, it's much harder to draw a line in the sand. On the contrary, fans of the show demand that the writers be equally invested in the storylines of all the characters without spending too much time on the same ones.
Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case on General Hospital lately. While fans of the younger couples like Joss and Dex had to deal with barely getting any crumbs of their favorites, and fans of Nina rioted all over social media begging the production to put an end to her suffering, the screen time was taken up by the success of Carly, Sonny and Drew.
However, the powers that be in Port Charles seem to be changing. While Nina is getting sweet reminders of her worth from Valentine, people around Sonny are suddenly remembering all kinds of crimes he allowed and participated in.
What Happened to Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital?
One thing the new General Hospital drama is for sure, it's chaotic. And to say that fans live for it would have been an understatement. Sure, some of the plot developments feel a little clumsy and awkward, but with so many characters that have been written to be so boring for so long, it was inevitable.
Besides, the more controversial the new direction General Hospital has taken, the more people are invested in what they see. Sonny Corinthos' sudden downfall is either loved or absolutely hated, and those two intense feelings are better for the production team to see than no reaction at all.
Whether you think it's believable that people who knew what Sonny was doing were already turning their backs on him, or whether you see a lot of hypocrisy in it, the opinion is valid either way. However, it's hard to deny that the conflict this creates is actually interesting to watch, unlike the protracted Crimson drama.
The next step General Hospital needs to take to stir the pot even more and make people gasp in disbelief is to make Carly lose at least once. While it's hard to believe it could actually happen, her not getting something she desperately wants could be the much-needed signal to viewers that all characters are finally equal again.
If you are hooked on all the changes in Port Charles and want to see where they will lead, you can tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC to not miss another episode.
