The grand finale of season 2 (and possibly the entire series) made some monumental changes to the very foundation of the MCU.

Summary:

  • The episode provided a spectacular grand finale for Loki, making him the center of virtually everything
  • The situation with Kang turned out to be much more ambiguous than expected
  • This presents a perfect opportunity to change the course of the MCU, which is desperately needed in light of the Jonathan Majors controversy

With the finale of its second season, the Loki TV series has officially solidified itself as the best and most important creation in the MCU's television branch lore-wise, giving the beloved titular character a conclusion worthy of a god.

Will We Ever See Loki Again?

The former God of Mischief has officially become the God of Time itself (or rather, a God of Stories, like his comic book counterpart), replacing the Temporal Loom and sitting at the center of all timelines, holding them together.

With such a crucial task placed on his shoulders, presumably for all eternity, it seems that fans will have to say goodbye to the character, at least for now, as he remains at his post where the Citadel at the End of Time used to be.

However, given how unexpected and complicated the finale was, with Loki now effectively replacing He Who Remains as the central figure for all timelines, many fans are wondering if this means that the entire threat of Kang the Conqueror variants has been averted.

Considering the fragile position that Jonathan Majors (who portrays the character and his variants) has found himself in following the assault and harassment charges, this may be the perfect time to remove the problematic actor from the equation.

Loki Finale Is the Turning Point For the Whole MCU

We learn that the TVA is now actively tracking Kang's variants, and even the demise of one of them during the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is briefly mentioned, so it certainly seems that they have become prey instead of apex predators.

It is pretty clear that if any of them begin to pose a threat to the timelines, the TVA will react immediately, putting an end to their plans before they even realize they are being watched.

Early Reports May Have Been Wrong

With the Kang situation now seemingly under control, this doesn't add up to earlier reports that there was no way for the MCU to change course.

Particularly, a Variety report quoted a person who had seen the final episode of season 2 long before it was released and stated that it solidified Majors' character as the next big threat, so the MCU is "truly f**ked with the whole Kang angle" since they reportedly didn't have time to rewrite the script due to the WGA strike.

The just-released episode 6 proves the opposite, possibly indicating that the ending was changed after all (even if it was, it was done brilliantly), making things much more ambiguous, as the variants are still there, but they don't seem to pose an immediate threat, as Loki at least bought the universe some time with his sacrifice.

As mentioned above, now is the perfect time to change the course of the franchise, but fans will have to wait for an official update on the state of affairs to know for sure if Kang is still a big part of the MCU.
