Loki Producer Teases Breaking Bad-Style Idea to Continue the Show
Kevin R. Wright believes they could take a hint from Better Call Saul to continue the series without undermining its stunning finale.
Summary:
- Loki TV season 2 ended on a rather unexpected note, with fans wondering if season 3 should even happen
- One of the show's executive producers believes they should take a hint from AMC's iconic series to continue it in the right way
- A spinoff like Better Call Saul can allow for the stories of other fan-favorite characters to finally be told
The Loki TV series recently ended on an unexpected but absolutely epic note, seemingly bringing the titular character's journey to a close, at least for now, and surprising many fans in the process.
While many of them expected the show to continue for at least a few more seasons, the final episode seemed to mark the end of the entire series, though no official statement has been made about Loki's future.
Considering how powerful the finale was, and even Tom Hiddleston, who has played the titular character since Phase 1 of the MCU, described it as the end of a long journey that began for him a long time ago, some fans believe that there is no need for a third season.
They say that if it happens, it will not only most likely never top the scale of season 2, but also actively damage the significance of the event, as Loki as a character has come a long way and reached a perfectly fitting conclusion.
Loki Executive Producer Believes There Is a Way to Continue the Series
However, Kevin R. Wright, one of the show's executive producers, who previously floated the idea of the project running as long as five seasons, still believes there may be a way to continue the story in a perfectly organic way.
In an interview with TVLine, Wright explained that no one is going to make Loki season 3 unless there is a particularly compelling story that desperately needs to be told.
Still, he believes there is a lot of potential for other stories to continue the show, not in a direct way, but with a spinoff series.
Wright brought up how the legendary TV series Breaking Bad, which ran for five seasons from 2008 to 2013, led to the creation of the series Better Call Saul, which revolves around Saul Goodman, one of the main show's characters.
The quirky lawyer has been a fan favorite since his appearance on Breaking Bad, and his own series ended up being just as great, even running longer than the original, for six seasons from 2015 to 2022.
Not only did it add depth to the world of the series and feature many familiar characters beloved by fans, it also told its own share of exciting new stories that resonated with audiences.
Although Wright doesn't know the future of Loki's character within the MCU for now, he sees creating something similar as a great way to continue the story that fans have enjoyed so much.
He also revealed that there have been no official talks with Tom Hiddleston about whether he will retire from playing the character after the season 2 finale, with everyone just agreeing to end the story this way.
Loki Still Has Several Stories With Great Potential
Fans seem to be on board with the idea, with some saying that they would love to see something like "Better Call Mobius" revolving around Owen Wilson's character, as the actor's performance was absolutely great and a prequel leading up to the events of the show would have been nice.
Others feel that the story of Sylvie, a multiversal variant of Loki portrayed by Sophia Di Martino, is also worth telling, as her tragic past spent hiding in apocalyptic events is quite intriguing.
Either way, there has been no official information about Loki's future, so fans will have to wait for updates to see if this idea comes to fruition one day.
