No human should let such disrespect slide.

Since the beginning of the entertainment industry, actors, dancers, singers, and musicians have not always been treated well. Although at some point in their fame, the celebrity gets a shield and a level of protection from most of the hatred, that doesn't mean they stop being looked at like objects.

Until recently, it was more than okay to dig deep into celebrities' dirty laundry and show all kinds of disrespect to them and their personal lives, invading their privacy and making them feel unsafe, all for the sake of profit and fun. Although the situation has changed a bit, we as a society are still nowhere near the level of respect that other people deserve.

The Internet has made it even easier to blur the lines. Although actors are usually happy to connect and see how people react to the characters they portray, there is way too much hate online to handle. The anonymity and lack of consequences make it even easier to go online and bully the face you know from the screen.

Laura Wright, who has portrayed Carly Corinthos on General Hospital since 2005 and has seen all sides of fandom over the years, knows the pain of online hate firsthand. And she's not one to tolerate it! Wright made that clear when she spoke with Richard L. Eldredge for Eldredge ATL.

“If you have a problem with your favorites, I get it. <...> I just think personally attacking any actor in any way is absolutely uncalled for. Have your passion for the character all day long but if you start attacking the actors? That’s unacceptable. And I have no problem blocking you,” the actress stated.

This is the right approach to take not only with any fan but with any interaction, online or offline. Treating the people around you with respect should be the basic rule of any conversation that takes place between anyone, and celebrities are no different.

If you understand that Laura Wright doesn't represent Carly Corinthos and you want to support the actress in whatever she does on General Hospital or off the show, you can easily do that on social media. However, if you don't have anything nice to say, it might be better to sit this one out and not say anything at all.

To see what the future holds for Carly Corinthos, you can tune in to the upcoming episodes of General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
