Kevin Feige's New Update on Loki Season 2 Finale Breaks With MCU Tradition
A show as successful as Loki can afford being a little rebellious, can't it?
Summary:
Not every single Marvel fan is necessarily fond of MCU TV shows, but it is what it is. Several years into the experiment, these shows already seem to have their own formula, just like the MCU blockbusters do. The seasons of Marvel shows are typically 6-8 episodes long, and they usually end with a cliffhanger or a teaser of sorts.
However, Loki season 2 is having none of than — at least according to the MCU mastermind Kevin Feige. The Marvel Studios president already has something to say on the upcoming finale for the second season of our favorite trickster's solo project.
First of all, it's going to be "exciting." Secondly, it will break with a major tradition of the MCU: no cliffhangers, ladies and gentlemen!
"We want to be able to deliver real fulfillment in what we’re doing, but I do think it’ll be exciting and unexpected and everything people like about this show," Feige told Deadline.
According to him, the two seasons of Loki were two chapters of the same book, and the book will be finished after season 2. However, even though we shouldn't expect a cliffhanger, Feige expressed hopes that the season 2 finale will leave fans just as shocked (in a good way) as they were in season 1.
Will Loki Season 2 Be Its Last, Then?
Feige's update doesn't mean that Loki's TV journey is wrapped up, though! According to the Marvel Studios president, there is room for new stories.
"There are other stories to be told there, but I think they would be new books, if that’s not too coy," Feige explained, continuing with the "book" metaphor.
However, this is also a far cry from more Loki seasons confirmation; if anything, Tom Hiddleston 's character may return in some other capacity, which doesn't necessarily mean a solo project.
But given that Loki remains one of Disney Plus' most successful projects, it's unlikely that Marvel will let it go easily. According to Disney, Loki has become the second-biggest premiere of 2023 on the platform, garnering whopping 10.9 million views globally after just three days of streaming on Disney Plus.
Will Season 2 Affect Other MCU Projects?
Feige has not given a definitive answer to that, but few things in the MCU are truly "on their own" these days.
The Marvel Studios president admitted that "the implications will ripple into other projects," noting that the TVA will have more stories to tell — with or without Loki, as we understand.
That's reasonable, since the entire new chapter in the MCU is dedicated to the Multiverse, and it's already as chaotic as can be. The MCU continues to blossom with timelines and alternative dimensions, and it's only fair that it will need a gardener — so why not the TVA?
Loki season 2 will wrap up with its sixth episode on November 9, 2023.
