Kate Winslet Is Still Embarrassed Of Her Most Memorable Role
The only person who would do Titanic all over again.
Summary:
- Titanic is a romantic disaster movie directed by James Cameron, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.
- In order to portray the main character Rose, Kate Winslet had to act with an American accent.
- As it turns out, the actress doesn't think it's her best performance, even though it was critically acclaimed.
If there is one thing that can unite everyone in the world, it is the feeling of insecurity that we all face from time to time. Whether it is something that has happened to us in a career or in a personal relationship, no one is immune from feeling less than comfortable and worrying that they are not performing to their full potential.
This is especially true for actors. While just about every other professional has the ability to hide their past work if they feel it doesn't live up to a current standard, actors don't have that privilege. No matter how good or bad they are in the movie, how many years ago it was released, and what the general reaction to it was, it will forever be available for re-watching.
The legacy of those who choose to act in front of the camera will remain online for viewers to find forever. Even if some of them would prefer to get rid of it altogether.
Why Kate Winslet Doesn’t Like To Rewatch Titanic
Even the most acclaimed A-list celebrities still struggle with judging their own performances. While the whole world cries over the final scenes of James Cameron's Titanic, Kate Winslet is more likely to cringe at her acting.
Speaking to the Telegraph UK, Winslet admitted that she hadn't seen Titanic in its entirety for a long time. However, the parts she has seen have not been pleasant at all. One of them was the American accent the actress had to put on to portray Rose. She said this when reflecting on her creative choices:
“Even my American accent, I can't listen to it. It's awful. Hopefully it's so much better now. It sounds terribly self indulgent but actors do tend to be very self-critical. I have a hard time watching any of my performances, but watching Titanic I was just like 'Oh God, I want to do that again. <...> Every single scene, I'm like 'Really, really? You did it like that? Oh my God.'”
Unfortunately, the history cannot be rewritten, just like Titanic cannot be re-shot now.
Besides, too many fans of the original piece would agree that Kate Winslet is way too harsh on herself for a wonderful and heartfelt performance. The way she and Leonardo DiCaprio have told the tragic love story of Rose and Jack would forever hold a special place in our memories.
If you want to go ahead and re-visit the iconic James Cameron movie today, you can go ahead and stream Titanic on Disney Plus or Paramount Plus.
