Karen Gillan and Alex Kingston Reunite, But Not For Doctor Who Anniversary
That must be a true parallel universe.
Summary:
- Karen Gillan and Alex Kingston are the actresses who have worked together on the set of Doctor Who, portraying a mother-daughter duo of Amy Pond and River Song.
- The fans demanded the characters to return for the 60th anniversary of the show, but it doesn’t seem to be happening.
- Instead, the actresses have reunited under a new ITVX show Douglas Is Cancelled.
There is nothing fans love more than a good old-fashioned on-screen reunion. Just as the fans of Sex Education were celebrating when a good half of the cast joined Greta Gerwig's Barbie earlier this year, it's time for Doctor Who fans to celebrate when Karen Gillan and Alex Kingston return to the big screen under the direction of Steven Moffat.
This trio has been working together on a Doctor Who production for several years, along with Matt Smith, who portrayed the Eleventh Doctor, and Arthur Darvill, who portrayed Gillan's on-screen husband, Rory Williams. However, neither of them would be present this time around. In fact, the reunion has nothing to do with Doctor Who at all.
What Is The New Karen Gillan And Alex Kingston Show
Both actresses will appear in the new ITVX production, which will be directed by Steven Moffat, previously known as the Doctor Who writer and second showrunner of the revival. The show will be called Douglas Is Cancelled and, as far as anyone knows, won't deal with anything supernatural.
The only phenomenon he wants to explore and discover is the "cancellation culture." The topic is sensitive enough to make some people feel a little weird about the upcoming show, while others are happy to prepare for the drama. Another difference is that Gillan and Kingston won't be portraying a mother-daughter duo anymore.
Instead, Karen Gillan will portray news anchor Douglas Bellow's sidekick Madeline, while Alex Kigston will play his wife, who is also a newspaper editor. Production on the series has already begun in London, but no release date or further updates are available at this time.
While it certainly doesn't make up for the absence of Amy Pond and River Song in the 60th anniversary special episodes of Doctor Who, fans are still excited to see two actresses come together again.
Besides, nothing can be said for sure until the specials air, so if you still want to see them, tune in on Disney Plus on November 25, December 2, and December 9. And if you don’t want to miss Douglas Is Cancelled, make sure to keep an eye out for more important news and behind-the-scenes updates.
