This sensitive subject, a deviation from the usual comedic tone of the show, needed to be handled with utmost care to avoid any controversy. Despite initially giving Leonard the freedom to make his own decision, Penny secretly feels uncomfortable with the idea and tries to put a stop to it.

Leonard ultimately decides to go ahead with his decision to donate his sperm. Although the showrunners were initially supportive, Cuoco was vehemently against the idea, and showrunner Steve Holland, in a conversation with TV Line, stated that Leonard's potential role as a sperm donor was a hot topic of debate. However, after much thought, they agreed that it wouldn't be the right move and might not provide a satisfying conclusion to the storyline.

Cuoco saved the episode

Cuoco and her supporters were able to breathe a sigh of relief as the controversial scene was axed for being too far from what would be realistic for the characters. But this wasn't the first time she's tried to put her foot down on a problematic storyline, as she previously expressed her dismay at being covered in hair for the 'Serial Ape-ist' storyline, though Cuoco didn't win that battle.
