Joseph Quinn Isn't Closing the Door on Eddie Munson's Comeback Just Yet
Back in the day, we were all shocked when Eddie Munson, one of the most beloved characters on Stranger Things, sacrificed himself to save his friends.
But was that really the end for the Dungeons and Dragons-playing buddy of Dustin who famously declared "I love you, man!" and broke our heart all over again with just one line? Although it seems unlikely that Eddie will be returning, here's what Joseph Quinn, the actor who played him on the show, had to say about it in his interview with GQ.
"I've said I don't know because I really don't know," Quinn said. "Shawn Levy [producer] has said it publicly. I think [his return] would be very, very, very unlikely. He seems pretty dead to me."
Sounds more like a done deal. Speaking about his character Quinn says that he wouldn't like him "to overstay his welcome" and that "he did the job that the Duffers wanted him to do."
But he also said that "by no means am I ruling it out. That's a decision for the grown-ups to make. But Stranger Things was doing fine without Eddie."
Whether Eddie will return or not, the actor is pretty sure Season 5 will be fine without him.
But some of the fans just refuse to take it. As they are still mourning what they call an 'early' and shocking death of their favorite character, they come up with all sorts of ways the plot might bring Eddie back.
One of the redditors in the Eddie camp suggests there could be a way for him to be brought back. If Eddie were to make any appearances in Season 5 it should be more as a flashback, or in a Vecna implanted memory because otherwise the comeback will ruin the story. Does it count as a return?
You just can't bring back dead characters because the show's fans in general and the character's fans in particular want it. It simply doesn't work like that. One of the commenters argues that Eddie is simply as "dead as a doornail", and Stranger Things doesn't just bring characters who are confirmed dead back to life. The user says that it is a no-brainer and sees no reason for discussing it.
Other commentators echo the sentiment saying bringing back dead characters is bad but it would be interesting if some of the dead characters were shown infested with the upside down stuff, and others had to fight them. According to the series fans, it would be really challenging psychologically and wouldn't really bring the characters back, more so just animating their corpses.
Writing of Season 5 is in full swing, and it is said that the script for the first episode has been completed. Filming will reportedly start in 2023, while the next season will most likely be released some time in 2024.
